Dr. Deadlock feat. Prince Flo & Lady Pet

There is a new release by myself and my friends Prince Flo and Lady Pet on my very own Blue Esquire Records label. DIY since ever, please enjoy and spread the word.

Ever thought you might need another version of these SKA classics? Hear "Gangsters" like you've never heard it before. Choose "Rivers of Babylon" for your next christmas party, scream to "Long Shot" and play "Donna" while havin' an amorous téte-à-téte with your baby.

Download only unless I can afford a physical format, preferably a 7". For now you can purchase at download stores or simply listen to at streaming services.

Skacoustic Sessions, Vol.1 - at iTunes Store
Skacoustic Sessions, Vol.1 - at Amazon

Ska Bike Videos - Pt. 3: Johnny & The Raindrops

Straight from Nottingham: Johnny & The Raindrops singing "Live Is Better on a Bicycle". How much is this true! A simple Ska jewel to sing along with in the early morning, having a breakfast with ham & eggs or whistling while - yeah guess what! - while commuting on your bike in sunshine or rain, weather doesn't matter. This song makes the sun shine even in a scandinavian winter. Thumbs up.

Western Standard Time - A Big Band Tribute to the Skatalites

"West Coast All-Star Ska Big Band paying tribute to early 1960's Jamaican Ska originators, The Skatalites. Pooling from the best-of-the-best Ska musicians from the last 20 years, Western Standard Time is a groundbreaking project commemorating 50 years of musical heritage. With the shear size of the group, the power and harmonic depth will be revolutionary but at the same time the music and feel will be grounded in its original roots."

Not sure why I missed this in the past few months and I'm also surprised about the few clicks, WST are recieving for their videos. May the CD sales be more successfull. I wish they'd come to Germany one day but Big Bands rarely go on tour so I'm enjoying the videos instead. China Clipper is my favourite, which is indeed a brilliant interpretation with refined arragement, inspired performance, outstanding trumpet and saxophone solo, and a riddim you can't avoid to let it catch you. The crowd at the show is witness, their dancing is testimony and their enthusiasm evidence for the liveliness of SKA.

Punk Bike Video - Brat Farrar - It's On Me

Great punk song in Wipers style by Brat Farrar from Melbourne, featuring apes, bikes and crashes. No blood though. The ape masks are so cool and some say one of them looks like Tom Waits.

Bass Culture & the 50th anniversary of Jamaican independence

This 8-CD compilation coincides with the 50th anniversary of Jamaican independence and stands out from masses of Reggae compilation by the excellent selection of well known tracks along with rarities and jewels, that never were released before outside Jamaica, b-sides and lost 7"-vinyl obscurities, all selected by DJ Jim Layne. What makes the exceptional quality of this compilation is the diversity which isn't limited by the back catalogue of only one label, refusal to stick to mega hits only and the perfect focussing on the four emphases of reggae music. Each set comes with a 16-page booklet that gives you all the background story you need, written by Lloyd Bradley, the author of the book "Bass Culture - When Reggae Was King". I ordered it straight away and can't wait to listen to the sweet music all day long.
